Funds raised

That’s a wrap on #FiriesClimbforMND 2021!

Last year our fundraisers took on their own #FiriesClimbforMND challenges and raised $31,786 to help us find a cure for MND. Thank you to everyone who took part last year!

The Firies Climb for MND is continuing its virtual challenge to our firefighting community in September 2022.

The past two years has thrown a lot at us, but it can’t take away our commitment to raising money and awareness for MND. That’s why we’re inviting you to take part at home with #firiesclimbforMND.

Over the years, hundreds of firefighters raised money for MND and climbed the steps of Sydney Tower Eye wearing 20kg of gear. This year, we’re inviting you to get creative with your own fundraising event in your area. It’s still a tough challenge but not half as tough as motor neurone disease (MND).

MND is a progressive, terminal neurological disease that has no known treatment or cure – yet. It’s a debilitating disease that slowly takes away the ability to move, speak, breathe, and swallow. Unfortunately, in most cases, a person with MND will die within two to four years of diagnosis.

Since 2015, the Firies Climb for MND has raised over $3 million to help find a cure for MND. All funds raised support MND research and clinical trials at Macquarie University Centre for Motor Neurone Disease Research – the largest MND research centre in Australia.

The #firiesclimbforMND is a way for all members of the community to participate in the climb efforts. We challenge you to get creative with your own event, whether it be a physical challenge involving climbing steps, cycling, swimming or walking, or other fundraising activities like movie nights, sausage sizzles or morning teas. Every little bit helps to fight MND.

It’s a challenge that you can do at home if you’re in lockdown, or even via zoom if you want to do a group challenge.
